Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Galesburg Public Library group was organized in 1984 to support the library’s work. The Friends is a nonprofit organization open to everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or place of residence. The group operates under the supervision and guidance of the Board of Trustees and does not involve itself in library policy.
The Friends are always looking for new members who want to support the Galesburg Public Library’s programs and services. Please call the library at 343-6118 for more information.
Used Book Sale
The Friends hold two book sales a year. The next sale will take place October 22-24, 2015.
The sale runs from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday night. The evening sale is free for Friends of the Library members or $5 per person for non-members. The sale runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Friday and continues on Saturday at 9:00 AM with a $3 bag sale until 2:00 PM. Some vintage books are included. There is no charge Friday and Saturday.
Prices are: paperbacks $1, hardbacks $2, CDs $1, DVDs $2, all children’s books $1.

The library will accept hardcover and paperback books and CDs and DVDs in GOOD condition. Donations will be evaluated and added to the Friends of the Library book sale if appropriate.
Items not accepted:
- Textbooks older than 5 years
- Damaged or mildewed books (broken spines, ripped covers and pages)
- Large donations of magazines (one bag or box of magazines published within the last 5 years will be accepted)
- Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
- Cassette tapes, albums
- Encyclopedias older than 5 years
We appreciate all of the donations that we have received over the years and hope that the guidelines will help you with your donations. It is hard for our volunteers to throw out a book, even if damaged or old, and we hope the guidelines will make it easier for them and our staff.

Galesburg Public Library Foundation
The Galesburg Public Library Foundation provides a link between philanthropists of all types and the library. The library benefits from gifts, Foundation activities and individual giving. The mission of the Galesburg Public Library Foundation is to enhance library resources and services. The Foundation is comprised of individuals who are interested in fund raising, have an interest in the library’s future and want to be activists. Foundation members undertake projects that complement and advance the library’s presence in Galesburg.
