Summer Reading. Have Book, Will Travel is the theme of this year's summer reading program at the library. Summer reading runs through July 27. There are programs and prizes for all ages: children, teens, and adults. Sign up today! Children register in the Children's Room; teens and adults register at the Reference Desk.
Search and Rescue Dogs and Drones. On Thursday, June 27, at 10 am, visit the library for an educational and entertaining program by Eddy Weiss that educates about disaster preparedness. He will also show how the search and rescue team uses dogs and robot drones to locate and rescue victims. Click here for more information on programs for kids.
Friends of the Library. The annual meeting of the Galesburg Public Library Friends is on Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 pm at the library. The Friends grossed $2900 at the spring book sale. Thank you to everyone who shopped!
Downloadable books. The Alliance Digital Media Library is the library’s downloadable audio and ebook service. More than 90 central Illinois libraries participate. The Big Read. The Galesburg Public Library is pleased to announce that the library is one of 77 nonprofit organizations to receive a grant to host a Big Read project between September 2013 and June 2014. The Big Read in Galesburg will focus on Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. Activities will take place in March and April of 2014. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. For more information about The Big Read, please visit neabigread.org.
Movie discussion group. The movie group meets in the evening at least once a month on the third Tuesday to watch a new movie at the AMC Showplace or a newly released DVD at the library. The group sees movies based on books or otherwise connected to literature whenever possible. A discussion at Perkins Restaurant on Henderson Street follows. The next outing will be the evening of Tuesday, June 18, to see the 6:50 pm showing of Epic. Click here for more information on the movie and other programs for adults.

Check out Books You Can Die in the Middle of, a blog of book reviews by Galesburg Public Library staff and friends. (Writer P.J. O'Rourke advises, "Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.")
