Summer Reading Program "Have Book Will Travel"

June 3 - July 27, 2013

 

Get started on your travels with early registration in the Children's Room starting May 20. Registrations will continue throughout June & July.

You may also register online by filling out the form on the Children's Room page.

You may pick up your reading log in the Children's Room starting June 3, 2013 and begin reading. Continue your journey to exciting places that books can take you!

 


Amazing Race for Families

Sat. June 8 at 10 AM

Everyone can win in this race! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Start at the library in the Children's Room and travel to several places in Galesburg to earn prizes - bookmark, granola bar, and free book.

Snakes Alive

Mon. June 10 at 3 PM

This program is presented by Tome Kessenich. It is an amazing, hands-on live retile and amphibian program.
 

   

Life-size Candyland

Fri. June 14 at 10 AM or 2 PM

As you travel through the life-size candyland, you will be able to sample sweet treats from various countries. Chinese fortune cookies, Swedish fish, and Italian Ice to name just a few.

Magician Rick Eugene

Tues. June 18 at 2 PM

Be amazed by Rick's humorous and awe-inspiring magic tricks.

Children's Summer Theater

Fri. June 22 at 2 PM

See our talented children performing an entertaining play.TBA

 
 

Search and Rescue Dogs and Drones

Thurs. June 27 at 10 AM

An educational and entertaining program by nationally acclaimed Eddy Weiss that educates about disaster preparedness. He will also show how the search and rescue team uses dogs and robot drones to locate and rescue victims.

 


Food Craft Day

Sat. July 6 at 10 AM or 2 PM

Children will be able to make a "Milky Way Car," Candy Sushi," and a cookie "Traffic Light."

"Edutainer" Bob Kann

Tues. July 9 at 10 AM

Be prepared to be thoroughly "edutained" by Bob's juggling, storytelling, magic, and audience participation.
 

Hot Air Balloon Program

Fri. July 19 at 10 AM

Hot Air Balloonist Greg Saul will demonstrate and talk about what it takes to pilot a hot air balloon. It will be outside in the storytime garden to actually see some of his equipment (weather permitting.)

Stearman Airplane Program

Sat. July 20 at 10 AM

Learn about those fantastic planes and make a Stearman airplane craft.

Craft Day

Tues. July 23 at 10 AM or 2 Pm

Come to the library for some fun crafts all about traveling. Make a car using a cardboard tube and duct tape, a wind streamer, and a train magnet using craft foam.

Registration required.

Travel the paths of Lake Storey

Sat. Aug. 3 at 2 PM

This will be the final summer reading program party. Meet at the shelter and names will be drawn for the grand prizes. Then follow the path and participate in several activities along the way ending with an ice cream sundae bar at the the shelter.

Thursday Theater at Three PM

Travel back in time with vintage Disney movies. There is no charge or reservation. The movies will be shown in the Hiler Room with free popcorn.

These movies will be shown June 6 - July 22. No movie will be shown on July 4.

The titles of the movies cannot be published on  our website due to licensing agreements, but you may call the Children's Room at 343-6118 ext.7 or come in to the library for the newsletter to get the complete list.
