In response to the national emergency and to protect IRS employees, America’s taxpayers, communities, and IRS partners, the IRS has temporarily closed all Taxpayer Assistance Centers and discontinued face-to-face service throughout the country until further notice. The IRS is continuing to process tax returns, issue refunds and help taxpayers to the greatest extent possible. Click here for more information on taxpayer assistance.
Thank you to the AARP Tax-Aide Program volunteer representatives for providing seasonal tax assistance at the Galesburg Public Library.
Check back in February 2021 for updated information on 2020 tax assistance.
The information below applied to the 2019 tax prep season.
You must make an appointment in person at the library when an AARP representative greeter is present. Please do not call the library for an appointment.
Taxpayers are responsible for the accuracy of their return. Returns will be filed electronically. Only Federal and Illinois State returns will be prepared. Certain tax returns are out of scope for the program (such as those involving rental property and farm income, and many others). Taxpayers with these and other complex returns will be advised to seek assistance from a paid tax preparer. Taxpayers are required to complete Form 13614-C and have all required documents before their scheduled appointment.
