Autism Spectrum Disorder Resources
Autism Spectrum Disorder Resources
Galesburg Public Library offers a variety of resources and services to help meet the needs of patrons living with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and their families, friends, and educators.
ASD Resource Collection
Located in the Children’s Room, this collection contains books and audio visual materials focusing on the autism spectrum of disorders and other related issues, and is intended to provide information for individuals and families who live and work with autism. All books and audio visual materials in the collection are available for loan to Galesburg Public Library cardholders.
Boardmaker
Galesburg Public Library provides free in-library use of Boardmaker, a software program that can be used to create symbol-based communication and educational materials like visual schedules, social skills stories, flash cards, and more. Boardmaker is available on a designated laptop within the library. Ask in the Children’s Room to use the Boardmaker laptop.
Sensory Saturdays
The first Saturday of every month is Sensory Saturday at Galesburg Public Library.
Sensory storytime, offered in the morning on each Sensory Saturday, is an interactive and education program for children ages 3-7 accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The program can be enjoyed by all children, but is especially designed for children with sensory integration challenges. It combines books, songs, movement, and therapeutic activities to stimulate the senses and promote learning. If your child has difficulty sitting through one of the library’s other storytimes, this inclusive program of stories, songs, and activities may be just what you are looking for!
This is my Library social story
