Big Read Kickoff: Black Hawk Performance Company

Kick off the 2022 NEA Big Read at the Orpheum Theatre, and watch Black Hawk Performance Company perform music and drumming, storytelling, and flute playing! The performance is free and for all ages. Event made possible through a generous donation from a patron.

Black Hawk Performance Company seeks to honor the ground they dance on, Mother Earth, and the many tribes who have made Illinois their home. They share their native cultures with the general public through many tribal songs and dances that enrich their lives as tribal people.

This event is part of Galesburg Public Library’s NEA Big Read of An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo. Free copies of An American Sunrise will be available at the event.
