The library will hold an ice cream social on Sunday, September 7, to mark the return of Sunday hours after the summer break. You are invited to join us for a trip back to 1958. Enjoy some ice cream, be amazed by the magic tricks of Rick Brammer, and take in the 1958 movie classic The Blob (©Criterion). The social runs from 2:00-4:00 pm, and all ages are welcome. Many thanks to Hy-Vee Food Stores for sponsoring the social!
Starting a business is a daunting task, despite many free resources available to the entrepreneur. The library was recently selected as a participant in “Building Rural Libraries and Communities.” Through this program, run by Western Illinois University, the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at WIU, the Alliance Library System and the Western Illinois Entrepreneurship Center, a computer workstation dedicated to business development activities is now available in the adult services area (near the Reference desk). It features the Internet and Office 2007. Also, a new page on the library’s website features small business resources; click here to check it out!
The Movie of the Book Club meets in the evening at the Showplace 8 Theaters at least once a month to see a new movie with a literary connection. We head to Perkins Restaurant afterwards for discussion. If you would like to receive email updates about what movies we are going to see and the exact times of the showings, please send an email message to reference@galesburglibrary.org.
Our next outing will be on Tuesday, September 16. The exact time and title will be announced about a week before. Newcomers are always welcome!
